Consisting of the towns of Murphy, Williams and Ruch, the Applegate Valley is just 23 miles from Medford and extends to California is perfect for swimming, boating, fishing, camping and much more and is a popular area for locals from Ashland, Medford and Jacksonville to visit. There are a number of hiking and walking trails in the area, for both advanced and leisurely exercisers. There is even the “Sasquatch Trap” which can be reached by a short trail and was used until 1970 and is still visited frequently by those thinking the elusive Big Foot may still be in the area. Applegate Lake is a 988-acre reservoir located approximately 24 miles from Jacksonville, Oregon along Upper Applegate Road. The Army Corps of Engineers began construction on the Applegate Dam in 1976 in an effort to protect the lower watershed from flooding. It took nearly 4 years to complete, and has since improved fishing and recreation to the area. Applegate Valley of southern Oregon, extends from Wonder & Wilderville to the north, Rogue River National Forest to the south, Ruch to the east, and Williams to the west. Applegate River descends from forest, through the valley to the Rogue River.
Applegate is an unincorporated community in Jackson County, Oregon, United States. It is located west of Medford on Oregon State Route 238 and the Applegate River In 2001, the Applegate Valley AVA became the sixth official wine appellation in Oregon
