Oregon City, Oregon is located in Clackamas County, 13 miles south of Portland, next to Gladstone and West Linn along I-205. Oregon City is to the south of the Clackamas River, on the Willamette River, where the river falls over 40 feet at Willamette Falls.
You can see Mt St Helens when visibility is good.
Oregon Territory was officially created in 1848 and Oregon City was designated as the Territory’s first capital, an honor it held until the capital was moved to Salem in 1852. Oregon was granted statehood in 1859.
